InterLibrary Loan Requests

Interlibrary loan permits one library to borrow and issue to its customers materials owned by another library. Interlibrary loan may be used whenever requested material is not available within the St. Louis County Library system. It is available for all customers holding a valid adult resident card in good standing (i.e., owing no more than $5.00 in outstanding overdue fines or having no more than five books overdue for more than one week). Homebound, teen and juvenile customers are not eligible.

Adult customers may have five requests for returnable items and/or five requests for copies or microfilm pending at one time. Customers will be notified when items are available at the branch. A lending fee could be added to the customer's record for any charges from the lending library.

Copyright dates should be at least one year old before materials are requested on interlibrary loan. Libraries reserve new materials for use by their own customers and do not loan them to other institutions

Interlibrary loan items cannot be renewed. The overdue fine for interlibrary loan material is $1.00 per day. Not all materials are available through interlibrary loan. The owning library determines which items it will lend.

The owning library also sets the value of the item if it is lost or damaged, which may be several hundred dollars.
